Google Business Profile

The listing with your name, hours and reviews on it. For a lot of local businesses, it brings in more inquiries than the website.

Why does a Google listing matter more than a website for some businesses?

Because it shows up higher. Someone searching on a phone often calls or gets directions straight from the listing, and never visits a website at all.

So treat it like a storefront, not a directory entry.

The category you pick decides which searches you can show up in. Your service areas decide where. The photographs decide which of three businesses somebody taps.

It also moves quicker than anything else we do. Google already has this information, so fixing it does not mean waiting for anything. Two to three weeks is normal.

Mostly a question of consistency.

Google is trying to work out whether two mentions of a business are the same business. It compares your name, address and phone number wherever it finds them.

That means your site, your listing, old directory entries, a page somebody set up years ago and forgot.

When they all match, everything you do counts toward one business. When they do not, even by a suite number, the credit gets split. It is dull to sort out. It is also often the biggest thing keeping a business off the map.

What we go through.

Usually one sitting. Most listings have four or five of these wrong.

  • The main category, which quietly decides which searches you can appear in

  • Service areas set to where you really work, not a fifty mile circle

  • Name, address and phone matching everywhere they appear

  • Old and duplicate listings found, claimed and merged

  • Recent photographs of the premises, the team and the work

  • Replies to reviews, including the bad ones. Those get read closest

  • The right setup for what you are: one location, several, or no public address at all
